Puyallup, Washington (pronounced /pjuːˈɑːləp/) is a city in Pierce County, Washington about five miles east of Tacoma. The population was 33,011 at the 2000 census and estimated at 36,930 in 2008 by the State of Washington. Named after the Puyallup Tribe of Indians, Puyallup means "the generous people."
